On the night of 13 December 2025, Bangalore Astronomy Club hosted a completely sold-out and oversubscribed Geminids Meteor Shower Watch, and the response exceeded all expectations.

With many participants joining us under dark skies out of city light pollution, we created a comfortable observing setup with insulated mats and blankets, allowing everyone to lie back outside their tents and enjoy one of the year’s best meteor showers in comfort.

Many participants were so captivated by the spectacle that they did not sleep at all throughout the night, choosing instead to spend every possible moment under the stars.

To make the experience more engaging, everyone was asked to keep a count of the meteors they observed. While only a few of participants shared their counts, the results were impressive:

✨ Highest reported counts:

Ahaan – 80 Meteors
Arnab – 74 Meteors
Sanjana – 45 Meteors
Pooja – 40 Meteors
Spandana – 36 Meteors
Ankita – 33 Meteors
Vijayalaxmi – 27 Meteors
Rahul – 25 Meteors
Aishwarya – 22 Meteors
Nikita – 20 Meteors
Shivi – 20 Meteors
Ashok – 18 Meteors
Aslam – 16 Meteors
Vijay – 14 Meteors
Shobha – 13 Meteors
Tarun – 12 Meteors
Ananya – 11 Meteors
Tejaswini – 10 Meteors
Sonal – 8 Meteors
Gowri – 7 Meteors
Shrey – 2 Meteors
Muktha – 2 Meteors

Even while coordinating the event, telescope observations, and overall flow, I personally managed to spot 14 meteors.

Beyond the meteor shower itself, participants also enjoyed telescope observations and guided tours of other celestial objects visible in the night sky, making it a complete astronomy experience rather than just a meteor watch.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and made the night memorable. Seeing so many people excited about astronomy, patiently watching the sky, and sharing their observations is exactly why we organize these experiences.

Bangalore Astronomy Club continues to conduct public astronomy events throughout the year for major celestial phenomena, including meteor showers, eclipses, planetary conjunctions, lunar and solar events, shadow transits, and other rare astronomical occurrences.

The universe always has something happening above us — and we look forward to sharing many more such nights with all of you.

Clear skies!
